Love and Wedding in Kigali – Richard & Diane’s Elegant Day

Richard & Diane’s Kigali Wedding: A Blend of Tradition, Faith, and Modern Elegance

In Kigali, Richard and Diane celebrated their love and wedding in Kigali with a celebration that gracefully blended Rwandan tradition and modern sophistication—beginning with the intimate Gusaba, moving to a warm church service, and culminating in a vibrant Golden Gala reception where 400 guests filled the night with music, dance, and heartfelt celebration.

A Love Story That Grew Over Time

Richard first became acquainted with Diane’s family in 2010 through a professional friendship with her father. Years later, a casual meeting during a family gathering in Karongi sparked something deeper. By 2021 the two were seeing each other regularly, and in 2023 they agreed to marry. “It felt natural, like a friendship that turned into love,” Richard recalls. Diane adds that marrying a man who had been a trusted family friend for nearly fifteen years brought a special sense of continuity and respect.

The Proposal: Simple and Meaningful

In January 2025, Richard organized a small, private proposal surrounded by a few close friends. The moment was intimate but powerful—an emotional milestone that confirmed the love they had been nurturing. “It was exactly what we needed,” Diane says. “Quiet, heartfelt, and perfect for us.”

The Kigali Wedding Journey Across Three Stages

1. Gusaba – The Traditional Introduction

The wedding celebrations began with a traditional Gusaba ceremony in Kicukiro. Richard’s family formally asked for Diane’s hand, while both families exchanged blessings and gifts. The couple wore elegant imishanana, reflecting Rwanda’s rich cultural heritage. The décor incorporated natural, traditional materials, creating a timeless atmosphere.

2. Religious Ceremony – A Covenant of Faith

Faith was at the heart of Richard and Diane’s day. Their religious ceremony brought together friends, family, and church leaders in a service filled with prayer, worship, and vows. It was here that their union was sealed with blessings, making the day not just a celebration but a spiritual milestone.

3. Kigali Wedding Reception at Golden Gala Kicukiro

The evening celebration unfolded at Golden Gala Kicukiro, one of Kigali’s premier wedding venues. The Kigali wedding reception at Golden Gala hosted over 400 guests, many of whom were lifelong friends of the couple. The atmosphere was lively, with music, dancing, and an endless outpouring of joy. Diane recalls one unforgettable moment:

“I will never forget seeing my mother crying with joy. It reminded me how much this day meant for our whole family.”

Adding to the excitement, Diane’s father joined the dance floor, surrounded by friends who filled the hall with laughter and celebration.

Cultural Celebration with Dance

A traditional Rwandan dance troupe performed at the reception, bringing vibrant cultural energy to the evening. Their movements, costumes, and drums captivated the crowd, reminding everyone of the deep connection between weddings, music, and Rwandan heritage.

Personal Touches That Made It Special

Beyond the official ceremonies, personal touches made the day unforgettable. Diane’s brother, Eesam, performed a love song he wrote just for the couple. His performance was a highlight that made the evening deeply personal and romantic.

Two days before the wedding, Richard and Diane also held a pre-shoot at Century Park Hotel, capturing timeless images in one of Kigali’s most elegant locations. These photos added an extra layer of storytelling to their wedding journey.

Lessons for Future Couples

The couple credits their success to careful planning and teamwork. “Sit together early, agree on priorities, and match them to your budget,” Richard advises. “Don’t rely too much on outside contributions, and book vendors early to avoid last-minute stress.”
