Getting married has no age limit: 95-year-old Kenyan man weds his 90-year-old partner

Getting married has no age limit, and the story of Ibrahim Mbogo (95) and Tabitha Wangui (90) proves it. After living together for more than six decades, the Kenyan couple finally celebrated a church wedding in Mukurweini, Kenya, inspiring people around the world. Their union sends a powerful message: love, commitment, and faith do not expire with age.

A love that began in 1960

According to a report by Gulf News, Ibrahim and Tabitha first met and fell in love in 1960. At the time, they chose to live together under Kikuyu customary law, which recognized them as husband and wife within their community. Although they were legally married by tradition, they always hoped to one day hold a Christian wedding.

“We met and fell in love in 1960. We agreed that one day we would have a church wedding,” Ibrahim said.

Why they chose to marry in church after 64 years

As devoted Christians, the couple felt their marriage would not be complete without a church ceremony. Despite financial challenges and life’s responsibilities, the desire never faded.

“In Kikuyu culture, we are already married. But as Christians, we wanted to stand before God and make it official,” Ibrahim explained.

Their decision reflects a belief shared by many couples: marriage is not just legal or cultural, but also spiritual.

A joyful wedding at 95 and 90

In August 2024, their dream finally came true. Surrounded by children, grandchildren, and relatives, Ibrahim and Tabitha exchanged vows in a church ceremony in Mukurweini.

Ibrahim wore a grey suit, while Tabitha walked down the aisle in a white wedding dress. The moment marked a historic milestone for the family.

“We are now truly official,” Ibrahim joked after the ceremony.

The Secret Behind Their Long Marriage

Tabitha shared simple but powerful advice for couples who want lasting love. “Respect your husband. When you make mistakes, apologize and forgive each other,” she said.

She added that patience, forgiveness, and respect kept their relationship strong for over 60 years. Relationship experts support the values the couple described. Psychologist Dr. John Gottman explains that strong marriages maintain more positive moments than negative ones.

He notes that marriages thrive when couples practice empathy, kindness, and forgiveness qualities Ibrahim and Tabitha demonstrated throughout their life together.

Getting married has no age limit. The marriage of Ibrahim Mbogo and Tabitha Wangui shows that love, faith, and commitment can stand the test of time. Whether young or old, couples can still honor their love and dreams when the moment feels right.
