The Château le Marara wedding venue has officially reopened in Karongi District, bringing renewed hope to couples planning weddings in Rwanda. Located along the scenic shores of Lake Kivu, the hotel has resumed operations after receiving approval from the Rwanda Development Board (RDB).
This reopening follows a period of closure due to licensing issues. With new management now in place, the hotel promises improved organization, better service delivery, and a stronger focus on weddings and events.
Why château le Marara Closed in 2025
In July 2025, authorities temporarily closed Château le Marara after complaints emerged from a wedding event. Guests reported power outages, delayed meals, and service challenges. These concerns raised doubts among couples seeking reliable wedding venues.
Although hotel management disputed some claims, the incident highlighted the need for better planning and professionalism. As a result, the closure prompted significant operational changes.
New management brings structural changes
Royal Retreat has taken over management of the Château le Marara wedding venue. The new team has begun restructuring internal operations, especially event bookings and catering services.
Emmanuel Ngayaboshya, the new head of the kitchen, confirmed that the hotel has revised its reservation system.
“The way reservations were handled caused confusion. We have changed that process to improve clarity for clients,” he said.
This shift aims to ensure smoother coordination for weddings, photoshoots, and private celebrations.
Improved catering and service standards
Food quality plays a major role in wedding satisfaction. The new management has made catering a top priority.
“We are preparing to deliver food services that meet five-star standards,” Ngayaboshya explained.
In addition, the hotel is reviewing staff performance. Management plans targeted training to improve professionalism and guest interaction during events.
A Scenic wedding venue by Lake Kivu
Despite past challenges, Château le Marara’s natural appeal remains one of its strongest assets. The lakeside setting offers a stunning backdrop for wedding ceremonies and photography.
The hotel features 21 rooms, allowing couples to host close family members and guests on site. This convenience makes it an attractive destination for intimate weddings and weekend celebrations.
